For the past month, the AVCLUB has been listing the best music, movies, books (and the genres within) of the 00's. While all of the lists have been wonderful, they've recently released the best of the bunch; the best film scenes of the decade.
Some of the picks are obvious, (the first 5 minutes of UP, the last 5 minutes of Before Sunset, and the long take fight scene from OldBoy.) But like all great lists, the staff reminds us of some great scenes that have gotten forgotten, or never gotten their due to begin with... a small sampling;
The 'cafe scene' from You Can Count on Me
Some other forgotten 'gems'...
The Business Card Scene from American Psycho
The 'Pen' scene from Memento
And possibly the most underrated scene in recent cinema...
The rest of the list...
“Cousins?,” Coffee And Cigarettes (2003)
The Cannes heist, Femme Fatale (2002)
The big chase, Grindhouse (2007)
A visit to the bathroom, Offside (2006)
The “life” montage, Up (2009)
First date/reunion, Yi Yi (2000) !!
- an absolutely inspired pick by the way. Yi Yi might be the quintessential film of the decade.

Hammer time, Oldboy (2003)
Street fight in the camp, Children Of Men (2006)

“Going to town” montage, Wet Hot American Summer (2001)
when carrie anne moss tells guy pierce all of her plans, and then takes the pens so he can't remember what she told him.
I thought the best scene in Before Sunset was when they're in the cab and he tells her how he thought he saw her on the way to his wedding in NYC, and with his back to her, she reaches for him, but pulls her hand away before he notices. Beautiful.
what's the memento pen scene?
