Here's a little companion to my ‘Best Movies of 2008' list; the lists of years past. If the years are a bit off, it's because I probably wrote the list in March or April the following year.
Of course in retrospect there are things I would change, like Zodiac, The Lives of Others, Eternal Sunshine, Vera Drake, and The Incredibles being too low, and Gone Baby Gone, The Departed, and Sideways being too high. And of course there are movies that I would definitely have put on the list if I had seen them at the time, like Ratatouille, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.
The presence of some movies might raise an eyebrow, but I assure you I have amazing reasons prepared.

for real man. i was really looking forward to Children of Men - dystopian future, science fiction bent, Clive Owen etc... But instead it was a big bag of shit. Very disappointing...
2004 was definitely a good year for film
children of men is pretty good. it's not what i imagined it would be but i was surprised pleasantly at most turns. That long/no cut action scene toward the end is the clincher.
Oldboy was awesome. And gross, but mostly awesome.
Can you explain to me why Children of Men is good? I've seen it a couple times, so it's not bad, but I don't understand why people rave about it.
