Yesterday the Guardian released their list of must-read comedies.
There are some obvious entires. We find Amis, Amis, Jerome, Lodge and lots of Waugh. The list also included some surprising choices. Finnegan's Wake for one.
I also thought there were a few glaring omissions. So here are some of my classic comedies in alphabetical order:
Nicholson Baker The Mezzanine
Don Delillo White Noise
Nikolai Gogol Dead Souls
Thomas Pynchon Gravity's Rainbow
Thomas Pynchon The Crying of Lot 49
Italo Svevo Confessions of Zeno
these lists serve no purpose to me other than to remind me how pitifully under read i am.
Once again, I couldn't include the link. The original article starts here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/jan/19/1000-novels-comedy-part-three
