Clergymen brawl

By Kenny Dec. 30, 2011 12:00 am

When you hear people talk about the big fight this week, I think most of us assume the conversation is about UFC 141: Lesnar vs Overeem.  However earlier this week there was another big brawl involving rival clergymen at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem during the church’s annual cleaning.  The church is one of Christianity's holiest churches and was built on the site where Christians believe Jesus was born more than 2,000 years ago.  Apparently the festive spirit has quickly worn off the clergymen as the Armenian Orthodox and Greek Orthodox clerics that were involved in the skirmish used brooms to fight over territory inside the church.  According to reports, similar outbreaks have happened before as the two denominations each control sections of the church and this violent incident erupted after each side accused the other of crossing into their respective territories.  The brawl that happened on Wednesday ended when club-wielding Palestinian police broke up the melee.  The real ugly side to this incident is the cute headlines that it spawned such as "Monks behaving badly" or "Bethlehem's church of the punch-up." Doesn't this seem like a situation that the NBA player formerly known as Ron Artest would get involved in? Watch the clip below and let me know if I am the only one who half-expected (hoped?) that Chow Yun-fat and Seann William Scott were going to appear.

Happy New Year!
