The AV Club says Ryan Reynolds has officially been cast as Hal Jordan.
The long-gestating Green Lantern movie (which at one point was going to be a comedy starring Jack Black) now has a presumably more serious script by a trio of TV writers and a proven action director in Martin Campbell, who helped revive the Bond franchise with Casino Royale. And as of yesterday, it has a star. Earlier this week it was announced that the finalists to play power-ring-wielding-test-pilot Hal Jordan were Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Justin Timberlake (!) and--your winner--Ryan Reynolds.
I almost threw up in my mouth when I saw that Timberlake was being considered. No disrespect to the guy, but the greatest Green Lantern of them all he's not.
Reynolds wouldn't have been my first pick for GL. He's got the physique for it, plus that arrogant look on his face that's a Jordan trademark, but he's too pretty. Jordan's a handsome guy, but he's no pretty-boy. Bradley Cooper on the other hand has the right look - attractive, arrogance, plus he looks like he could handle himself in a fight. Reynolds would've made a good Wally West (Flash), but as Green Lantern, he'll have his work cut out for him.
i thought reynolds was going to star as deadpool? anyway, i always thought lantern had amazing potential in terms of special effects. depending on the budget, this could work.
