It was a bet with my friend Neil. I'm thinking maybe we should have a bet on whether this fight is actually going to happen, the negotiations are so long and quiet. Floyd's got this rep of invincibility right now, but I think Shane's got the goods to take him out.
1) Shane's got the reach advantage. According to Boxrec.com, Shane's at 74" while Floyd's at 72". So Shane should be able to, at worst, jab the shit out of Money (NH). Check how often he doubled and tripled on Margarito. According to Oscar "The Golden Girl" De La Hoya, the jab is what disrupts Floyd's shoulder-roll. It's going to be hard to counter over-top that jab, especially if Shane fights tall.
2) Shane, even at 38, is going to be more active inside the ring than Money. If you check the videos below, there's not one 3-punch combination Floyd throws on Marquez, forget land. He threw more in bunches against Hatton, but Floyd's combination punching wasn't really a prominent motif there either. I don't think that cute single lead left hook, single counter right (see above), or left hook right hand is going to be enough to win rounds. Not when Shane's throwing up to 6 shots at a time (check 2:50 on the Mosley/Margarito highlights).
3) Shane's a sturdy motherfucker. He's been hurt, like once, and he was really hurt (Vernon uppercut) and he managed to make it through a round. Sure, Money will tag the guy, but those single shots are not nearly strong enough to ko Shane. And Money won't throw enough to break Shane down in the later rounds.
4) Shane is strong enough to hurt Floyd with single shots, Floyd isn't strong enough to do the same to Shane.
Floyd's faster of foot at this point of his career and he's better defensively. To me, those advantages mean that he won't get knocked out. I just don't see him able to punch enough or punch hard enough to win rounds or knock Sugar out. At worst, Shane can win rounds by jabs, at best, he gets FLoyd to mix it up a lot.
Then I'm going to take Neil's money and put it on Pacquiao over Clottey.
Don't forget that lackluster performance against Collazo, and the fact that Margarito likes to block punches with his goatee. Mayweather is gonna dominate Mosley.
OMFG! Just watched the highlights. Mayweather is amazing! No wonder Pacquiao ducked this guy.
Might I add to the conversation that Floyd is very candid about his bout against Emanuel Augustus being the hardest fight of his career. Watch that fight again, because I think it is somewhat telling of what a guy like Mosley might be able to do...
Max why do hate Floyd so much man?!! I am beginning to suspect PBF stole your parking space one time or something! haha
i dont remember watching the mosley collazo fight, but he won 10 rounds to 2 and this report from east side boxing says that mosley beat collazo pretty definitively: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/boxing-news/Mosley-Collazo.php
Collazo broke his hand early in the fight and Mosley couldn't even take him out. Plus it took Mosley 11 rounds, 2 min, 59 sec to solve Mayorga. I don't like his chances against the best boxer in the world.
Also, let the record show, the fight isn't even signed yet and we're already talking about Mayweather more than Pacquiao. Is there any doubt who boxing's number 1 draw is?
Clearly it's Shane Mosley...
Yeah, either him or the guy with the highest grossing PPV fight in the history of boxing.
Toushay! If we included retired boxers, it would be Oscar for sure. But when Money takes apart Princess Pacquiao, we can compare so see who's ppv totals are the highest of the 3. I'll bet 30 buck on Money.
can we say for sure how good mosley still is?
sure he looked great against margarito, but how good is he considering there's a strong possibility he's been cheating his whole career? Add a mediocre win over mayorga, and a questionable loss to cotto, who knows..?
i suppose you could say the same stuff about mayweather since his last fight was against an undersized jmm, but mosley's 38... that wall's gotta be coming real fast.
