Some of my friends think I have a problem. But I think they are the problem. They being those who are obese and want us to pity them because they have no self control.
I’m sure the general population also hate on fat people. I’ve done the weight gain/weight loss thing and, not even being close to a size 2, I am the first to role my eyes to some of the things fat people say and do.
A lot of individuals don’t even realize that they are prejudice but if they check the way they react to situations involving these people they would realize how judgemental they really are.
Case and point: I repeatedly saw a commercial for an upcoming episode of the E! Network show called Ruby. It follows the life of a severely overweight woman in the South (go figure). In this episode Ruby is not thrilled with her trainer’s idea to increase her weight training. She feared it would make her “bulky”.
My first thought was “is that even an issue at almost 400lbs?” As cruel as it sounds, I felt she was way past the point of being “bulky”. And I’m sure I’m not the only person that laughed at her for her comment. Most won’t admit it though. Expressing disbelief or rage towards fat people has become almost as bad as being mean towards the developmentally challenged.
When a negative comment is made towards the chubby population, a lot of people try to justify their hate by having a “If I did it you can do it” attitude. But truly all that means is “I think I’m better than you”. Even 200lbs Oprah looked down at the fat again Kirstie Alley. Oprah herself is no stranger to the weight game but was one up on Kirstie because at least she didn’t gain back all of the weight she had lost.
Jealousy can also propel hating on fat people. It ain’t easy making sacrifices by eating right and working out all the time and then you turn on the TV some fat person complaining about how hard it is for them while they binge on all the food that you wish you could indulge in. LL’s ripped core didn’t just happen, he has an intense regime. And Jennifer Lopez’s post baby fat didn’t just lose its self. These people put in work, as does most of the fit population (contrary to popular belief, the majority of fit people aren’t naturally thin). All this dedication sometimes can become obsessive and eventually becomes hate for those who don’t live this type of healthy lifestyle. It’s easy to dislike the overweight individual who complains about being discriminated on but doesn’t see the issue with supersizing every fast-food meal.
While the reasons for hating on fat people are numerous the reasons why it can be justified are just as long. In general, perhaps because obesity is something that can be changed, we think it’s okay to disrespect big people.
Like I said, I’m no slim Jim so my comments aren’t as bad as they would be if they were coming from a Calista Flockhart. But I guess that still doesn’t make it right. Oh well. What can I say? I just don’t do fat people.
They do complain a bit, don't they?
I agree that people who don't put work into their bodies are DEAD WRONG to complain about people with crazy bodies. Especially celebs, let's be real it's their business to look good. Let's be real do we want to see over weight celebs on T.V and in the movies? I don't pay cable to see that. Anyways back to the main issue. When I see fat people I always wonder why they gave up on themselves. Maybe we should be teaching children and young adults in health class how to eat properly etc... So it becomes less of an issue. I don't hate on fat people I just don't want to be part of that crowd.
Ain't that the 'ugly' truth! Who said it would be pretty? Sorry to those who may take this article offensive but they have to realize what our world has come to. My philosophy is; "If you don't like how you look, then change it." I know, I know. . .easier said then done, but hey, what are you gonna do? Just ask your self, "Is it worth it?" And in the long run, you'll probably realize that it really is. So do what u want with all the hate and criticism and negative feedback, and prove something to yourself, instead of being in denial all the time or procrastinating. Listen to MJ, look at the "man(/woman) in the mirror" and "make a change"...lol By the way this does not only fall under the category of over-weight people. It's for anything in general; personal goals, relationships, etc.
Yea, the self-defeatist attitude of most obese people is abhorrent. But it belies certain physiological factors that actually inhibits weight loss in heavier people. Couple that with the unhealthy foods and chemicals in the average American diet and you have a problem that goes beyond any single individual http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1914857,00.html
The result? Government needs to step in and attack the obesity problem the same way cigarettes have been attacked in the past decade. Calorie rich foods and unhealthy chemicals that flood the American landscape need to be regulated much in the same way tabacco has. Where personal will fails it seems big brother ought to step in.
Agreed on every comment. When it comes to self-discipline...

They are also putting a huge stress on health care in the US as Anthony has pointed out in his poinagnt feature: http://thedashingfellows.com/why-the-government-should-help-stop-us-from-getting-fat/4958
