Not sure how much traction this story will get, but I thought it was pretty interesting.
Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq and appeared at a press conference in Baghdad. Out of nowhere, an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at the president.
"This is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog!" he shouted.
(You can read the full story here)
Bush was unfazed by the shoe attack, saying "if you want the facts, it's a size 10 shoe that he threw." The press corps sounded like they weren't sure whether or not to laugh.
No doubt there will be some funny Daily Show/Colbert Report skits on this. Behind the comedy of it, however, I found a few things about the story interesting.
* The man who threw the shoes, Muntadar al-Zaidi, was apparently kidnapped by a militia and beaten up following the "liberation" of Iraq.
* Iraqis used shoes to attack the Saddam Hussein statue after it was toppled in 2003.
In an interview following the incident, Bush said he didn't understand what the guy's beef was.
Like I said, interesting.
I have nothing but the utmost admiration for this guy especially considering he was likely treated to an afternoon of zealous waterboarding for his troubles.
say what you want about the guy, but he has pretty good reflexes.

I think it's a perfect ending to a not so perfect presidency
