When the Canadian and US elections were simultaneously under way this past Fall, one of the common criticisms was that Canadians were more interested in what was going on south of the border than the election happening in their own country.
Well, can you blame them?
While we're blessed that Canadian political culture is more pragmatic and less prone to the ridiculous behavior that inundates American politics, it rarely makes for good theatre. Considering that over the past 2 years, there have been five (!) gay Republican sex scandals, and a Democrat caught with a 20-something hooker, I think we can be forgiven for nodding off a little whenever Dion begins talking about The Green Shift.
So you can imagine how pleased I was to see that the Liberals/NDP and the Bloc are forming a coalition to topple the Conservative government, and anoint Dion the new Prime Minister less than a month after an election. The entire thing has a storming of the Bastille flavor to it. For the first time in a long time, I found myself going to the Toronto Star and Globe & Mail's websites before the New York Times and The Huffington Post.
If Dion comes walking out tomorrow wearing a Crown, I might turn giddy.
CBC is the only trusted name in news....and PBS on occasion.
talk about living under a rock (which, is literally true from your guys' perspective). good lord, i didn't know about this. man, this is actually fun. you don't know how much the entertainment in my life has ground to a halt since the election (you know which one) was over. go canada! let's take over some airports and leave people stranded... just cause.

This First Triumvirate will be the (further) death of the Liberals west of Ontario.
This IS pretty interesting! And if Dion becomes PM, he'll be a nice replacement for the walking gaffe dispenser that was George W. Bush. We get the hilarious sound bites that come with having a tenuous grasp on the English language but without the dangerous stupidity. Best of both worlds!
yeah, it's weird how I'm not watching CNN as much as I used to and seem to be watching more TVO and CBC.
