Mother Jailed for Tracking Down Son on Facebook and Sleeping with Him

When mothers put their children up for adoption it’s generally in the hope that their child will receive the opportunities that would otherwise be lost to them and not to track them down on Facebook and f*ck them 14 years later. However, the latter seems to be true for at least one mother of 5, Aimee L. Sword, who proved that Oedipus Rex still has modern relevancy having tracked down her son she gave up for adoption 14 years ago to have sex with him.

Details surrounding the relationship are murky but a rough narrative has emerged. Having given up her son to an open adoption, Sword would receive annual updates of her son’s development from his adoptive parents. After missing one of these updates for his 14th birthday Sword set out to locate her boy and did so through Facebook. Based on her son’s testimony, contact was eventually made online and penetration was eventually committed offline in motels and a relative’s home. In lieu of his testimony, Sword has pled guilty to one count of first degree sexual conduct that carries a 9 to 30 year jail sentence. She is currently married and a mother of 5 other children.

Just what exactly did Sword see in her biological son that set the wheels of a Graecian tragedy in motion? Her lawyer offers the following

"When she saw this boy, something just touched off in her — and it wasn't a mother-son relationship, it was a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship,"

Not entirely earth shattering, but it does offer fodder for speculation. Perhaps this “something” that she saw in her son was an image of her ex-lover in a completely docile, safe, and pure form. Or maybe this “something” was the sublimation of guilt that accompanied her decision to give up her son, which culminated in an effort to subsume him, to make him entirely dependent on her once again in some twisted reenactment of motherhood by returning him to the most intimate and proximate location; inside of her. Or maybe this was a secondary end, behind a fundamental wish to have a son with her son in an effort towards absolution; the ultimate maternal and edifying act of playing both mother and wife to a son she had abandoned. Or maybe this is just so fucked up that there is no reason and it is what it is. At least we were able to figure out how effectively bad a parent Sword is. Even after making the decision that she was not sound to raise her son she still found a way to fuck him over. Gross.
