PMS is Your Fault (you big fat jerk)!

Men, time to take stock of your ammunition because we’ve got one less card to play when confronting the finer half of the species. PMS may no longer be singularly responsible for a woman’s bout of irrational fits (Honey, why are you crying!?) and her ovaries can only be blamed for your unplanned pregnancy and not for her wonkiness. According to new studies published on the subject the cause of a woman’s lunacy may be squarely placed on you i.e. the man in her life. Men have always had the uncanny ability to destroy through sheer neglect and a woman’s peace of mind is no exception.

There has always been a link between stress and PMS. However, just which causes the other has always been a muddled topic. We’ve always had this wolfman view on the issue where a woman would transform at the end of her cycle in much the same way a wolfman would transform at every full moon, both gnashing their teeth and seeking blood. In fact, the word lunacy implies a lunar cycle, which applies to both menstruation and wolfmen. Given this narrative, when you call a women a lunatic you’re actually not entirely wrong. But I digress. Apparently, a woman’s level of stress plays an integral role in the severity of her PMS symptoms, stress that can be caused by us (asshole).

In order to verify the findings, researchers followed 259 women over 2 ½ menstrual cycles. They noted each woman’s stress levels using the Perceived Stress Scale before and after each cycle. And what did they find? Women with higher stress levels before menstruation had much higher chances of exhibiting severe symptoms of PMS than women with lower stress levels. A dangerous finding if you happen to be in a longterm relationship with a woman. Because when she says you’re “a bull-headed ass”, it’s probably the truth.
