The Dashing Fellows

The ARCHIES Movie, a.k.a your taste as a kid sucked.

When you're a little kid, your tastes suck.

Don't believe me? Check out your favourite cartoons / television shows on DVD, and I guarantee that you'll be shocked at the banality, and crappiness of what used to enthral you for hours.

Exhibit 1: THE ARCHIES

I used to love the Archies. In retrospect though, I'm not sure why. The stories weren't funny, smart, and certainly not insightful. I suppose there was something appealing about living vicariously through wholesome middle class teenagers to a working class child from the inner-city, but still... those stories were really bad.

But despite the awfulness of the comic, when word got out that a television movie (a live action one no less!) was being made, my ten year old self was ecstatic. Unfortunately, for reasons I can't remember, I never watched it.

Seeing the clips on YouTube, the movie probably should have just stayed in my mind:

Jesus Christ - a "hip hop" Sugar Sugar... Yet somehow it still had better lyrics than Soulja Boy

I remember getting into a fight with my dad because he wouldn't let me stay up to watch this.

Wow, that sugar sugar is awesome. Although this does dampen my enthusiam for the Thundercats movie slightly. But only slightly.

i like this post because you hit hard and fast in your first 3 sentences and you leave no doubt to anyone but those in self-denial.

i'll venture to guess that our generation was worse than more recent ones because sometimes just the production value of our childhood shows was enough to gag on. that particular problem couldn't possibly be the same now as it was then.
