This Sports Scandal Involves... Besti@lity!!

I'm trying to get back into a routine on the blog part of this site. This story on an Australian Pro rugby player seems like a strong enough impetus. So we've had Duke players accused for rape, pro basketball players sexting pictures of their dongs, and KG saying CV4 looks like a cancer patient. There's even that whole predator culture in minor hockey. But, dude, a prank on your teammate via besti@lity? I know you were drunk but 1) would the teammate find that anything but nasty?; 2) that's gross; 3) something or other about animal rights. High level sports is the only place we get to see these grotesque expressions of hyper-masculinity. At this point, with the guy's (Joel Monaghan) apology, and no actual visual in my mind's eye: this is hilarious.

From The Toronto Star

The career of one of the stars of Australia’s Rugby League is likely over after a picture has emerged of him engaging in a sex act with a friend’s dog.

The incident took place during Mad Monday – an Aussie rugby tradition following the end of the season involving vast quantities of alcohol.

But speaking through his agent on Thursday, Monaghan, 28, admitted that it was him in the picture.

“Joel can't blame anyone but himself for an act of stupidity that will haunt him for the rest of his life,” agent Jim Banaghan wrote. “Joel has to now face his family as well as fans and supporters with that shame and has already undergone counselling to help him cope with the consequences of what has happened. It was a moment of abject stupidity brought about by too much drink and a complete lack of any thought process.”

"Banaghan described the act as a 'prank on an absent teammate.' The dog belonged to that teammate."

The joke's on him...

"Are you ready to laugh?"

"That poor dog."

"I said, are you ready to laugh."

"Quiet you awful man!"
