W4M - Mostly Asian Women for Men

I was reading an article on exploitation of labour rights in Toronto's Chinatown.  I stumbled on the following reader comment:

Most of them are brought over on visitor visas that don't allow them to work. They are then in the pocket of the snakehead who smuggled them in. Craigs List - W4M take a quick look down the list. Do you really think that hundreds of young Asian women are prostituting themselves by choice? Not only do they not know the laws, they were brought here to be exploited by the people who paid for the ticket. They aren't landed immigrants with sponsors and with educations and with skills, they are people who are one step from starvation back home being offered the dream who get sucked into being slaves when they get here and realize there is nothing they can do. Human trafficing is a major criminal enterprise and first world wealthy cities are a target destination. Most of these people won't complain even if they do know the law because they also know they aren't really legal in the first place, and chances are they owe money to a snakehead on top of it.

I clicked on the link Craigslist - W4M (which queries Craigslist for the term W4M, abbreviation for Women for Men) and was surprised to find half the ads to be of asian women for men.  That's an interesting ratio...

In the final year of our restaurant business, we shared our lease with a couple of ladies who used the second floor for prostitution.  At the beginning, they said they would use it as a massage parlour and acupuncture clinic.  We were suscipicious right then, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt.  Then the numerous men with averted and downcast eyes frequented the second floor....naivity gone....

Here's what my mom said about it at the time, "Don't judge.  Everyone has the right to survive."  Not only did they survive, but they helped us with our rent too because we were always financially stressed and several months behind payment.  Those prostitute ladies sure made lots of money...makes me wonder why I busted my brains in engineering...

avp.

a lot of those craigslist ads are fake. they're run by the same shady organization that uses fake pictures/phone #s for the same set of women... but it is sad.

also, while prostitution in canada is legal, housing prostitutes is actually illegal.
